Activities and responsibilities The unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii secretes substantial amounts of glycolate under photorespiratory conditions (Taubert et al., Plant Biotechnol. J. 17, 1538-1546 (2019)). As glycolate is an important industrial chemical, its production in a photosynthetic microorganism opens up the long-term potential to establish a biotechnological industry based on renewable resources. JOB DESCRIPTION

Grade - UE07 £37,099 to £44,263 per annum (A revised salary range for this grade of £39,347 to £46,974 is planned to take effect from Spring 2024) 

College of Science & Engineering - School of Biological Sciences, Institute of Ecology and Evolution     

Full time - 35 hours per week

Fixed term - 1 April – 30 September 2025

 

We are looking for Postdoctoral Researcher to support the work of Prof. Rambaut on genomic surveillance of outbreaks and research on the origin and emergence of viruses.

The Opportunity:

This work is part of a research program called ‘ARTIC’ funded by the Wellcome Trust which aims to develop sample to inference systems for tackling outbreaks and epidemics using rapid pathogen genome sequencing.

 Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Candidates will have a PhD in a relevant biological field, experience of virus evolution and epidemiology, virus genome sequencing, and developing models and simulations to understand viral emergence.
  • The candidates will excellent communication skills, and the ability to deal with a variety of tasks to set deadlines. 
  • The project will involve working with project team members including virologists, bioinformaticians and epidemiologists to help provide a framework for understanding virus emergence from non-human animal reservoirs.
