Ph.D. position in algal biotechnology PhD position - 3 years (m/f/d) Algal biotechnology Leipzig University, Faculty of Life Sciences, Institute of Biology, Plant Physiology group of Prof. Severin Sasso, Leipzig, Germany Start: 1 July 2024 Deadline: 7 May 2024 The Plant Physiology group at the Institute of Biology, Leipzig University, offers a Ph.D. position (Promotionsstelle) starting from 1 July 2024, subject to formal funding approval. Activities and responsibilities The unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii secretes substantial amounts of glycolate under photorespiratory conditions (Taubert et al., Plant Biotechnol. J. 17, 1538-1546 (2019)). As glycolate is an important industrial chemical, its production in a photosynthetic microorganism opens up the long-term potential to establish a biotechnological industry based on renewable resources. The aim of a new third-party-funded project is to improve glycolate secretion. For this purpose, we want to use physical mutagenesis (e.

Two Postdoctoral Researchers in Plant Metabolism and Immunity: We are one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe and one of the most important employers in our region. Our broad range of subjects, the dynamic development of our main research areas and our central location in Cologne make us attractive for students and researchers from around the world. We offer a wide range of career opportunities in science, technology, and administration. 2 Postdoctoral Researchers (f/m/x) in Plant Metabolism and Immunity The new research initiative ‘Immunometabolism in Health and Disease’, financed by the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, is a highly interdisciplinary project in which molecular, cellular and biochemical data from plant and animal systems will be produced to advance the understanding of cellular metabolic programmes underpinning immune responses. This is expected to lead to the first integrated map of immunometabolism in plants and animals, including rational targe

Fully Funded PhD Position in behavioural ecology using experimental evolution Application Deadline: 15 March 2024 Country: Switzerland Dr. Tom Ratz from the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies of the University of Zurich is offering a fully funded 4-year PhD position to join his group. The project will aim to investigate how competitive interactions can change evolutionary trajectories. Using the remarkably sexually dimorphic fruit fly Drosophila prolongata, the objective will be to test evolution in action and set up an experimental evolution experiment to examine how the social environment – and specifically the intensity of competition for limited sexual partners and/or food resources – shape the evolution of aggressiveness and the associated behavioural plasticity. Experimental evolution is a powerful approach to study how organisms respond and adapt to environmental conditions imposed by the experimenter. Drosophila flies have long been model organisms i
