Ph.D. position in algal biotechnology PhD position - 3 years (m/f/d) Algal biotechnology Leipzig University, Faculty of Life Sciences, Institute of Biology, Plant Physiology group of Prof. Severin Sasso, Leipzig, Germany Start: 1 July 2024 Deadline: 7 May 2024 The Plant Physiology group at the Institute of Biology, Leipzig University, offers a Ph.D. position (Promotionsstelle) starting from 1 July 2024, subject to formal funding approval. Activities and responsibilities The unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii secretes substantial amounts of glycolate under photorespiratory conditions (Taubert et al., Plant Biotechnol. J. 17, 1538-1546 (2019)). As glycolate is an important industrial chemical, its production in a photosynthetic microorganism opens up the long-term potential to establish a biotechnological industry based on renewable resources. The aim of a new third-party-funded project is to improve glycolate secretion. For this purpose, we want to use physical mutagenesis (e.

PhD Fully Funded Position in Biochemistry and Analysis of Traits in Crop Plants at The Leibniz IPK Institute in Germany PhD Fully Funded Position in Biochemistry and Analysis of Traits in Crop Plants at the Leibniz IPK Institute in Germany; Referenznummer 17/02/24. The research group Metabolic Diversity focusses on the biochemistry and analysis of traits in crop plants that are critical for growth, development and the production of value-added compounds.  Our underlying goals are to isolate and characterize the pathways leading to increased performance in plants used for food, industry, and medicine.  We accomplish these tasks by incorporating multiple -omics based high-throughput approaches for both the analysis of small molecules and for gene discovery. The position on the Organic production of garlic – expanding the range of varieties through selection of plant genetic resources (ObiVonKnobi) is offered through funding supplied by the Federal Organic Farming Program (BÖLN) via the

Fully Funded PhD Position in Mapping checkpoint receptor function in Th17 cells in melanoma, United Kingdom

Fully Funded PhD Position in Mapping checkpoint receptor function in Th17 cells in melanoma Application Deadline: 30 March 2024 Country: United Kingdom Award Summary 100% of home tuition fees paid and an annual stipend of £18,622. Overview Checkpoint inhibitors has been a standard of care for melanoma patients but approximately 30% of patients respond to these therapies. In order to improve therapy response, it is important to study the phenotype and function of the various immune cells that are involved in tumour immunity within the tumour microenvironment. In this PhD studentship, we aim to investigate how PD-1 regulates a type of immune cell known as CD4+ T helper cell that produces IL-17 cytokine (Th17 cells). We will investigate whether Th17 cells contribute or inhibit tumour immunity in experimental murine models of melanoma currently available within the laboratory within the context of checkpoint blockade. The student will learn cellular immunology techniques, biochemical and
