As glycolate is an important industrial chemical, its production in a photosynthetic microorganism opens up the long-term potential to establish a biotechnological industry based on renewable resources. The position is funded by a Novo Nordisk Foundation research grant “Understanding bacteriophage behavior through the lens of the bacterial host population” to Associate Professor Sine Lo Svenningsen Area of Research Our starting point is a temperate phage of the fish pathogen Vibrio anguillarum that is strongly regulated by the host quorum-sensing system. The project aims to understand the molecular mechanism underlying quorum-sensing control of this phage, and to develop new tools for detection of quorum-sensing-controlled phage-host interactions in general.
