JOB DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited for a 1-year postdoc position in fisheries impacts on benthic habitats.


The postdoctoral researcher will enter the Section for Ecosystem based Marine Management at DTU Aqua in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark, with a special focus on fisheries impacts on benthic habitats related to fisheries and environmental management. The section has 27 employees and a focus on interdisciplinary research in marine ecosystems and system-based management of human activities. It offers an internationally recognized and highly dynamic scientific environment.


Responsibilities and qualifications

The research tasks will focus on activities in national projects aimed at documenting, testing and modelling impacts of mobile bottom-contacting gears on benthic habitats. The work will support the implementation of the EU Habitat Directive and Marine Strategy Framework Directive. The work includes conducting applied research, including BACI (Before-After-Control-Impact) sea trials of demersal trawling impact on benthic infauna and epifauna in the Skagerrak (northern North Sea), data analyses and statistical modelling, involvement in research dissemination at an international level  and participating in giving scientific advice to the Danish government.


Candidates should hold a PhD degree or equivalent in benthic ecology, fisheries impacts or a related field.


Assessment

In the assessment of candidates, particular consideration will be given to:


Experience in scientific field work within benthic faunal surveys, preferably involving sediment sampling and underwater video recording,

Demonstrated research success as shown by publications in scientific journals,

An understanding of benthic ecology, invertebrate biology and human impacts,

The ability to handle datasets and a good statistical understanding,

Ability to work conscientiously, independently as well as in teams,

The ability to communicate at all levels in English.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. 


The position is for 12 month with an option to extend the appointment for up to two years based on good progress and funding. Desired start date is 1st August 2023, but dates are negotiable.


Place of employment will be at the DTU Aqua, Section for Ecosystem based Marine Management, Kongens Lyngby, Denmark.
