A Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in the Translational Genomics and Plant Synthetic Biology is available in the laboratory of Dr. Wusheng Liu within the Department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University. This position will focus primarily on plant breeding, transformation and genome editing (using the CRISPR-Cas9 system) in multiple nursery crops including Tripidium, Rudbeckia and/or Rosa. The incumbent will be expected to collaborate on research projects and direction, conduct experiments, write manuscripts, and train resident graduate and undergraduate students in a variety of techniques, and to provide feedback on research methodologies. The postdoc will also meet frequently with Dr. Wusheng Liu to discuss best practices in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring.

The position is in the laboratory of Dr. Candace Haigler, Professor, within the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. The overall aim of the project is to use the tools of molecular and cellular biology to test how processes and variations in cotton fiber morphogenesis impact the mature fiber qualities of importance to industry.

The successful candidate will be involved throughout the experimental pipeline by: generating hypotheses and making experimental plans; growing plants; making constructs for genetic manipulation of plants; comparing phenotypes in wild type and genetically altered fibers; analyzing data; and writing research reports and publications. Occasional work in the field may be required to help collaborators with planting or collect cotton samples for analysis.
