Ph.D. position in algal biotechnology PhD position - 3 years (m/f/d) Algal biotechnology Leipzig University, Faculty of Life Sciences, Institute of Biology, Plant Physiology group of Prof. Severin Sasso, Leipzig, Germany Start: 1 July 2024 Deadline: 7 May 2024 The Plant Physiology group at the Institute of Biology, Leipzig University, offers a Ph.D. position (Promotionsstelle) starting from 1 July 2024, subject to formal funding approval. Activities and responsibilities The unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii secretes substantial amounts of glycolate under photorespiratory conditions (Taubert et al., Plant Biotechnol. J. 17, 1538-1546 (2019)). As glycolate is an important industrial chemical, its production in a photosynthetic microorganism opens up the long-term potential to establish a biotechnological industry based on renewable resources. The aim of a new third-party-funded project is to improve glycolate secretion. For this purpose, we want to use physical mutagenesis (e.

12 Postdoctoral Fellowships at Northwestern University, Illinois

Are you holding PhD degree and looking for Postdoctoral Fellowships? Northwestern University, Illinois invites multiple online application for Postdoctoral Fellowships in various research areas. Candidates interested in Postdoctoral Fellowships can check the details and may apply as soon as possible.

1. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Postdoctoral fellow positions are available in The Han Lab in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. The Han lab studies the mechanisms of how lung epithelial cells repair after injury and how aberrant repair occurs resulting in fibrosis, especially in the elderly. We are particularly interested in mitochondrial metabolism and how cellular metabolism affects lung epithelial stem cell function and fate, in the context of lung development and lung repair after injury. We are also interested in how lung epithelial stem cells interact with other cell types, such as immune cells and mesenchymal cells, during repair after lung injury and the development of pulmonary fibrosis. We apply a multidisciplinary strategy using elaborately designed genetic knock-out and knock-in mouse systems, in vitro organoid models, RNA-sequencing, and metabolomics. The research projects are funded by grants from the NIH and private foundations.

2. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Social, Environment and Health Lab in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position. The postdoctoral scholar will work with Dr. Kiarri Kershaw on an AHA-funded project using community-engaged approaches to investigate the impact structural racism has on pregnancy and cardiovascular outcomes in non-Hispanic Black birthing people. The postdoctoral scholar will also have the opportunity to develop and execute their own research projects.

3. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Prof. Shana Augustin in the Department of Pharmacology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine invites applications for highly motivated postdoctoral scholars interested in studying the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission and its functional significance in the basal ganglia. These positions are multi-year and available immediately. Our research seeks to understand how neuromodulatory information is decoded by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) to influence synaptic transmission and circuit functions involved in motor control and reward-driven behaviors, primarily focusing on the interaction of the dopamine and endocannabinoid systems. This research implements advanced imaging techniques to examine neuronal modulation on a circuit, cellular, and subcellular level of investigation. Current research projects utilize two-photon microscopy, electrophysiology, behavior, and brain slice photometry. Available projects will employ the previously mentioned techniques but will include in vivo optical imaging, such as fiber photometry.

4. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Richard Green Laboratory in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Comprehensive Transplant Center at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking a postdoctoral fellow for an NIH-funded position. Investigations will focus on the role of hepatic ER stress and the unfolded protein response in the regulation of bile acid metabolism and cholestatic liver diseases. Studies will examine the transcriptional regulation of bile acid metabolic genes by hepatic XBP1, FXR, and HNF4alpha signaling pathways. Gene and protein expression and lipid biochemical approaches will determine the resultant effects on cell metabolism. These basic and translational research studies use a range of genetic, cell, and molecular biology, and omics approaches using both in vivo and in vitro models.

5. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Richard Green Laboratory in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Comprehensive Transplant Center at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a postdoctoral fellow for an NIH-funded position. Investigations will utilize iPSC-hepatocytes and liver organoids to determine the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). NASH is a leading cause of cirrhosis and liver failure and there are no effective medical therapies or biomarkers for disease progression.

 6. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy seeks applicants for a postdoctoral fellow in the learning sciences. The candidate will be part of a team of researchers, faculty, and curriculum developers involved in a newly funded initiative by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The project’s goals are 1) to improve understanding of the concept of dynamic equilibrium across multiple sciences and develop a unified framework for defining it. 2) to develop, implement, and evaluate science units that foreground dynamic equilibrium and include computational activities for middle school and high school. The project also aims to produce new modeling software to enable students to see and explore dynamic equilibrium in action.
