Ph.D. position in algal biotechnology PhD position - 3 years (m/f/d) Algal biotechnology Leipzig University, Faculty of Life Sciences, Institute of Biology, Plant Physiology group of Prof. Severin Sasso, Leipzig, Germany Start: 1 July 2024 Deadline: 7 May 2024 The Plant Physiology group at the Institute of Biology, Leipzig University, offers a Ph.D. position (Promotionsstelle) starting from 1 July 2024, subject to formal funding approval. Activities and responsibilities The unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii secretes substantial amounts of glycolate under photorespiratory conditions (Taubert et al., Plant Biotechnol. J. 17, 1538-1546 (2019)). As glycolate is an important industrial chemical, its production in a photosynthetic microorganism opens up the long-term potential to establish a biotechnological industry based on renewable resources. The aim of a new third-party-funded project is to improve glycolate secretion. For this purpose, we want to use physical mutagenesis (e.

Permanent Bioinformatics Engineer Position is open on the Integrative Bioinformatics Platform (BIOI2) in France

Permanent Bioinformatics Engineer Position is open on the Integrative Bioinformatics Platform (BIOI2) in France; As a research engineer working under the supervision of the managers of the Integrative Bioinformatics Platform (BIOI2), you will work closely with other members of the IT department to develop technical solutions for data analysis and dissemination, while paying attention to aspects of performance, scalability, and maintenance of the proposed solutions.

You will strengthen the team to enable the growth of new technologies in bioinformatics increasingly relying on deep learning and artificial intelligence technologies. You will collaborate closely with the imaging, structural biology, proteomics, and genomics platforms of the I2BC to help them develop analysis processes using the most effective methodologies. With these platforms, you will participate in technological monitoring and may integrate into national networks where they exchange technological solutions. You will be responsible for implementing tools to allow users of the I2BC technological platforms to process their raw data, perform necessary calculations and simulations for data interpretation, while favoring their integration for different analysis scales.

You will participate in promoting the activity of the BIOI2 platform nationally by being involved in training actions at the IFB and in sharing its expertise. An important objective of your activity will be to provide support for the deployment of solutions using machine learning and artificial intelligence methodologies. This may typically involve optimizing the parameters of a pre-trained AI model to improve its performance for a specific task. Application areas may range from optimizing image recognition networks for processing electron microscopy data to specializing large language models for protein engineering.

You will need to interact synergistically with other computer scientists responsible for these issues, thus promoting the development of high-level expertise within the Institute focused on promising developments in artificial intelligence and predictive biology.

Applicant Profile Computer engineer specialized in data science and artificial intelligence and/or holding a Ph.D. in a bioinformatics field with experience in learning methods, you may have expertise in image processing for microscopy or integrative modeling, for example. Proficiency in Linux and Python, knowledge of machine learning and deep learning libraries, and experience in utilizing resources for intensive computing on CPU and GPU environments are required.

Ideally, you should also have knowledge in the field of biology to better understand the expressed needs. With excellent listening skills, you will frequently interact with engineers from other platforms to envision technical solutions for optimal utilization of high-throughput generated data.

Rigor, organizational skills, and responsiveness will be highly valued attributes. Service orientation and technical and interpersonal skills aimed at supporting scientific communities in their optimal use of computing systems will be important evaluation criteria for candidates.

To apply: Application documents: CV, cover letter, and letters of recommendation; To be sent to direction@i2bc.paris-saclay.fr  before 06/28/2024.
