The researcher will study RNA expression regulation, especially focusing on dysregulated genes in cancer development and progression. We are particularly interested in combining bioinformatics, high-throughput multi-omics approaches such as RNA-seq, CRISPR screening, single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, as well as standard molecular biology techniques to characterize gene expression regulation at the molecular and cellular levels. The Yamada laboratory studies the mechanisms of the trafficking of signaling molecules, such as the receptor for the growth factor, which regulates angiogenesis and vascular leakage. The regulation of receptor trafficking is a novel concept for angiogenesis-related and vascular-leakage-related diseases such as cancer growth, cancer metastasis, and eye diseases (diabetic retinopathy and wet AMD). Using mouse models, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques, we are defining the mechanisms of pathological angiogenesis and vascular leakage in these diseases.

As an integral member of the research team the postdoctoral scholar will be mentored by MGMC study Principal Investigator’s Kylea Liese PhD, CNM (medical anthropology/midwifery) and Stacie Geller, PhD (public health) as well as other senior faculty on the project: Crystal Patil, PhD (anthropology/nursing) and Pamela Pearson, CNM, DNP (midwifery). The goal of the postdoc will be to implement the qualitative research aims, methods and analysis to understand the perinatal care experiences of Black birthing people in Chicago. The postdoc will design, facilitate and analyze qualitative interviews with Black birthing people, Black midwives and other clinical and administrative support staff at UIH. The interviews are meant to elicit a nuanced picture of the costs and burdens of giving birth as well as compare how these may differ among people receiving racially concordant care. The postdoc will be encouraged and mentored to develop their research skills and agenda with support to present findings at academic conferences and author publications.

The Glusac group at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is looking for a postdoctoral research associate with expertise in electrocatalysis, more specifically towards carbon dioxide reduction to useful fuels, such as methanol. The postdoc will be involved in performing electrochemical experiments to evaluate the electrocatalysts’ catalytic activity, efficiency and product selectivity using electrochemical and other characterization techniques. This project will be performed in collaboration with the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Materials group at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), led by Dr. Deborah Myers. The postdoctoral fellow will be performing experiments at both UIC and ANL. The project is part of the larger research center called CO2 Reduction and Upgrading for e-Fuels Consortium (CO2RUe), which is funded by the Department of Energy to develop advanced technologies that convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into e-fuels and commodity chemicals using renewable electricity.
