Activities and responsibilities The unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii secretes substantial amounts of glycolate under photorespiratory conditions (Taubert et al., Plant Biotechnol. J. 17, 1538-1546 (2019)). As glycolate is an important industrial chemical, its production in a photosynthetic microorganism opens up the long-term potential to establish a biotechnological industry based on renewable resources. The aim of a new third-party-funded project is to improve glycolate secretion. For this purpose, we want to use physical mutagenesis (e.

Candidates interested in Postdoctoral Fellowships can check the details and may apply as soon as possible.

1. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Canadian group in the DarkLight collaboration has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher to join us in a search for new bosons in the mass range from 10 to 20 MeV using the TRIUMF/ARIEL e-linac. The successful applicant will join a small international collaboration and be based at TRIUMF in Vancouver, BC. The brief and intense schedule for the DarkLight experiment means that this position provides a unique opportunity for a young postdoctoral researcher to participate in a particle physics experiment from the design stages right through data taking to a final result during their time at TRIUMF.

2. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Funded by the Government of Canada New Frontiers in Research Funds (NFRF), Mend the Gap project (https://mendthegap.ubc.ca/) addresses the challenge of repairing the spinal cord after injury. To overcome the challenges ahead, an international and highly interdisciplinary team was set up, with researchers from several fields (neuroscience, surgery, materials science, engineering) organized under several research themes. The two open positions are related to building an ultrasound system for biomedical imaging, using newly developed polymer CMUT (Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer) arrays. The system will be used for the real-time imaging of biomaterial injection into the spinal cord, to help for its repair.

3. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A position is open for a postdoctoral fellow with a PhD in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline, and a strong interest in neuroscience, cardiovascular and vascular biology. Interested candidates must be self-motivated and have at least two first-authored papers in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in spinal cord/peripheral nerve stimulation, bladder & bowel dysfunction, experimental animal research, immunocytochemistry, and/or histology is an asset. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to perform experiments to determine the neuronal and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and autonomic (i.e., bladder, bowel, sexual, and cardiovascular) dysfunction following spinal cord injury. This involves in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro experiments along with extensive work involving rodent models of spinal cord injury. The fellow will also be expected to write scientific publications, apply for research funding, and present their work at institutional journal clubs and international conferences.

 4. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

CCLI’s research and policy work in the past three years has focused on advancing regulation to move Canadian businesses and financial institutions to net-zero transition plans by providing legal research on the legal duties of corporate and pension fiduciaries with respect of climaterelated matters and advising senior policymakers and regulators at the federal and provincial levels. Our objectives include advancing securities regulation and corporation law to advance disclosure and management of climate-related financial risks; research in advancing policy options for financial services and pension law regulators in respect of developing, managing, and measuring milestones in transition plans to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in line with Canada’s stated public policy to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

5. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Wound healing is one of the foundations of medicine. Our laboratory is focussed on understanding mechanisms of tissue injury, inflammation and repair. We are particularly interested in how environmental (eg. smoking) and other factors (aging, diabetes, genetics) impair normal healing and /or contribute to chronic disease, identification/validation of novel therapeutic targets and the development and commercialization of de novo therapeutics. The post-doctoral fellow (PDF) will take on a leadership role and be actively involved in the translational research effort pertaining to establishing wound healing models to identify and assess novel therapeutic approaches ultilizing in vitro and invivo modelling approaches, transcriptomics, proteomics and other methods. The job is highly translational and well suited for PDFs seeking greater involvement in all steps in taking basic bench research discoveries through to clinical application and potentially commercialization.

6. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

In this postdoc project, you will study plant phenology change over time across spatial scales. You will work with available datasets including the International Tundra Experiment phenology dataset, cross-site time-lapse photography (phenocams) and remote sensing data to quantify changes in plant phenology over time and with warming across spatial and temporal scales. You will also have the opportunity to explore tundra vegetation changes below-ground including the timing of root growth using available cross site data collected as a part of the TundraTime project. This research will test the hypothesis that although warming is leading to earlier growing seasons, the period of plant growth is not extending longer above ground. This research will increase our understanding of tundra phenology change and will be used to predict rates of landscape and ecological change with global change across the tundra biome. We collaborate with a team of early career researchers, Northern partners and international experts to conduct this research.

7. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

In this postdoc project in the Faculty of Forestry at University of British Columbia, you will study community assembly in tundra ecosystems, revealing how tundra plant species form spatial patterns and how this confers resilience to global change across the tundra biome. For this project, you will assemble spatially explicit datasets of plant community composition working with the point framing data from the International Tundra Experiment (ITEX+) database. You will then statistically model vegetation change over time and in response to climate change drivers taking into account the spatial arrangement of tundra plants and the spatial patterning of ecosystem types in the surrounding landscape.

 8. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

There is an urgent need to understand the effects that global change can have on the Earth, its system components and ecosystems. One area of critical concern is the imminent abrupt and irreversible critical transitions of ecosystems through tipping points. Recent discoveries indicate that such tipping could be evaded and even reversed in ecosystems through spatial pattern formation, thereby creating pathways of resilience. For our ERC-Synergy project Pathways of resilience and evasion of tipping in ecosystems (RESILIENCE) we are offering a postdoctoral position for a self-motivated candidate with a strong scientific background in the fields of ecology, remote sensing, environmental sciences, data science, mathematics or statistics with excellent English language skills.

 9. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

In this postdoc project, you will study vegetation change over time across spatial scales and will explore the implications for wildlife habitats. You will work with available ecological and remote sensing data to quantify changes in vegetation change across spatial and temporal scales and the implications for wildlife. Research questions will be co-developed with Indigenous communities in the Canadian North. This research will increase our understanding of tundra vegetation change and the implications for wildlife species. We collaborate with a team of early career researchers, Northern partners and international experts to conduct this research.
