Postdoctoral Researcher from the Field of Plant Sciences/Molecular Biology | Institute of Biosciences and Geosciences

Postdoctoral Researcher from the Field of Plant Sciences/Molecular Biology Would you like to contribute to sustainable plant use through your work? Then the Sub-institute of Bioinformatics (IBG-4) at the Institute of Biosciences and Geosciences is the right place for you. The team of Prof. Usadel works on and develops methods and algorithms to achieve a fundamental understanding of high-dimensional data and processes in the bio-economy, focusing on e.g. data analysis, research data management and data integration, among other things. The sub-institute of Prof. Usadel is part of the project “CORNWALL - Improving maize lignocellulosic materials for the bioeconomy”. The aim of this project is to identify new non-transgenic maize varieties that show altered yield of sugar derived from lignocellulosic biomass. Here, the incumbent will develop and apply cutting edge nanopore sequencing to link bioenergetic traits to genomic regions. Research center Julich Institute issuing the offer IBG...

Phd Position in Soil Microbiology | Microbes and microplastics in agricultural soils, The University of Bayreuth, Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences

Interested in working on the microbiology of microplastics pollution in soils? Agricultural soils are one of the most important sinks for global microplastics pollution, but soil microorganisms can help to alleviate these problems. The University of Bayreuth, Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences, Chair of Ecological Microbiology (Prof. Dr. Tillmann Lueders) is currently offering a: Phd Position in Soil Microbiology (m/f/d), TV-L E 13 (65 %) Microbes and microplastics in agricultural soils  The position is available from July 1st, 2023, or as soon as filled, for a duration of three years. We are looking for: A highly motivated PhD candidate with a completed Masters’ degree in microbiology, molecular ecology, soil microbiology or other closely related fields. A strong background in microbiology, molecular biology and/or biogeochemical analytics is expected. Experience in next-generation sequencing or the setting up of field experiments are of benefit. You enjoy...

PhD fellowship in Plant Nutrition The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen

PhD fellowship in Plant Nutrition The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, is offering a 3-year PhD position operating at the interface between Plant Nutrition and Bio-Nanotechnology, financed by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The expected start date is 1st of August 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project In the project, we want to study the processes controlling transport of plant nutrients contained in nanoparticles (NPs) across the plant tissue, which will enable us to produce next generation crop fertilizers that are more efficient, sustainable and climate friendly than current conventional fertilizers. We want to improve our understanding of how NPs interact with plant tissue at cellular level. Specifically, we want to study how NPs can be tailored to penetrate the cell wall and become internalized by plant cells. In the project, we take a mechanistic approach to gain an improved understanding on how th...

PhD fellowship in forest carbon stock and resource modelling, Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, the section of Forest and Bioresources

PhD fellowship in forest carbon stock and resource modelling PhD Project in forest growth modelling and carbon chain analysis Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, the section of Forest and Bioresources invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in modelling the development in forest resources and carbon stocks. The project is part of the research project “Silviculture for climate change mitigation”, which is financed by The Danish Agricultural Agency as part of the research reserve. Start date is expected to be 1 August 2023  or as soon as possible thereafter. The project The proposed project focuses on the development of tools necessary for coherent analysis of emission profiles including cross-sectorial emissions and temporal aspects of forest carbon capture and storage hitherto not combined in previous studies. With multiple pathways that forests may aid in the green transition, i.e., afforestation, setting aside of untouched forests, or managing...

PhD fellowship in Fertilization and Climate Change The Department of Environmental Sciences, Section of Plant and Soil Science invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in Foliar N fertilization: A path to green agricultural production

PhD fellowship in Fertilization and Climate Change The Department of Environmental Sciences, Section of Plant and Soil Science invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in Foliar N fertilization: A path to green agricultural production. The project is part of the research project “FoliarN”, which is financed by the Danish Research Foundation Start date is expected to be 15-08-2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project Nitrous oxide (N2O) is an important greenhouse gas. About 70% of the N2O emissions comes from agricultural fields as a consequence N fertilization. Foliar fertilization refers to a strategy where liquid fertilizer is applied directly on the leaves of growing crops. As the foliar fertilizer minimizes contact with the soil where the N2O producing processes occur, foliar N fertilization has the potential to reduce N2O emissions. However, currently there is very little evidence for this. The FoliarN project with which this PhD position is connected aims to...

PhD fellowship in Plant Ecology PhD Project in Arctic plants’ thermal acclimation and heat-stress responses, Department of Biology, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen

PhD fellowship in Plant Ecology PhD Project in Arctic plants’ thermal acclimation and heat-stress responses Department of Biology Faculty of SCIENCE University of Copenhagen Terrestrial Ecology Section, Department of Biology invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in quantifying arctic plants’ thermal acclimation and responses to heatwaves. This PhD position is a part of a recently funded 5-year Villum Young Investigator project “Plant temperature-regulated Arctic responses and feedbacks to the changing climate” (2023-2028). Start date is expected to be 1st September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project Strong, ongoing warming in the Arctic is causing drastic changes on arctic vegetation and plant functionality, which can modify potential roles of the arctic ecosystems in the climate system. This amplified warming is expected to largely increase the frequency of heatwaves in this region. Under heatwaves, we expect a reduced plant uptake of CO2, but a ...
