PhD Studentship - Algae PhDs fellowship UK

PhD Studentship - Algae        Dr Jonathan Lee ,  Dr Gary Stephen Caldwell  Friday, May 31, 2024  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide) About the Project PhD project part of the  CDT in Process Industries: Net Zero . The successful PhD student will be co-supervised by academics from the  Process Intensification Group  at Newcastle University.  Microalgae are playing increasingly prominent roles in wastewater bioremediation, where their well-known ability to absorb metals, nitrogen and phosphorous is used in solar driven processes that clean up the wastewater. A process co-developed by Newcastle University and Northumbrian Water Ltd (NWL) and installed at the Bran Sands treatment works on Teesside, uses an ammonophilic microalga ( Chlorococcum  sp.) originally isolated from Bran Sands to remediate ammonium from the site’s anaerobic digesters. The process is stable, well characterised, and is being implemented at scale. It is central to NWL’s nutrient neutrality and net zero ambitions

Dr. G. Mayakkannan , Malaysia:- Special Guest for the session 22 of AARI Bioscience International Webinar series

Dr. G. Mayakkannan Currently, is working as "Chief Executive Expert" in NOCH International Sdn Bhd, Malaysia he is Also working as Chief technology Officer (CTO) in Microbloom Tech Pvt Ltd. India

He has strong background and expertise in microalgal taxonomy, physiology and algal biochemistry. Strain selection & improvements, media engineering, culture buildup from lab to commercial scales productions .he has Successfully designed different cultivation system and cultivated microalgae in open-pond and closed photobioreactors internationally.

He has also Developed  SOP for intensive culturing with integrated technologies.

He Attained many government funds for start-up to commercial venture, and also Supervising and training personnel’s for farming microalgae for use in Biofuel, nutraceutical, cosmetic and food industries.

Also worked in University of Malaya as Honorary overseas scientist where he has maintained their culture collection and guided the faculties and students on algal technology

Also He has worked as a CTO/Chief Phycologist in Algaetech International Sdn Bhd, Malaysia. He has cultivated and developed system for the commercial production of high-value microalgae (Haematococcus, Spirulina, Nannochloropsis, Dunaliella and Chlorella each more than the volume of 500,000L capacity in both the open and closed cultivation system) and worked in EADS funded algae integrated Bio-remediation & biofuel production.

He has worked as Lead scientist in Aquatic Energy LLC in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA.  Where his responsibilities were sampling, isolation, identification, characterization, purification (Purification of algal cells from Chytridial, fungal and ciliate contamination) and mass cultivation of microalgae from fresh water bodies located in Lake Charles for bio-fuel production. He also published Published many articles and book chapters in Pier reviewed  journals and organised, attended many symposium and workshops.

As an accomplished Scientist with over more than 11 years of experience in the field of algae I hope he could share the industrial expertise on the field of algae to the participants in great detail. Hence I request all the participants to listen to the speaker very carefully, through this lecture he surely deliver a great knowledge to you.
