9. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We employ untargeted and targeted metabolomic analysis and isotope tracing studies using newly vested in-house Thermo Exploris 480 LC/MS instrument. Along with this powerful analytical tool, we use various in vivo mouse models and in vitro models to define the role of nutritional input and the underlying mechanisms in disease development and control. For instance, we have recently (Nature, 2019) employed metabolomics approaches to show that dietary methionine restriction is an effective and feasible dietary intervention in healthy humans and mice to alter circulating metabolism without overt side effect. Dietary methionine restriction has shown promising in various mouse cancer models alone or in combination with chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

16. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoctoral fellow will lead innovative research projects focused on studying the molecular convergence of neurodevelopmental disease, including autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. Almost 30% of genes implicated in neurodevelopmental disease encode transcriptional regulators including chromatin modifiers, transcription factors, and RNA-binding proteins. It is likely that many of these genes converge on shared downstream pathways, the identification of which could dramatically accelerate drug discovery. To identify these pathways, the postdoctoral fellow will use human iPSC-derived neurons and cutting-edge approaches, including single-cell RNA-sequencing (perturb-seq), chromatin profiling, and electrophysiology assays.

17. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Tran lab in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics is seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Associate to lead projects that will examine the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration and axon regeneration in the central nervous system (CNS).

About our research: CNS neurons have a limited ability to recover from damage and for many neurodegenerative conditions there are limited treatment options. Our lab uses a variety of mouse genetic and high throughput single-cell multi-omic approaches to dissect the molecular pathways that mediate neuronal survival and growth at tissue scale with cellular resolution. We utilize the retina as an approachable part of the CNS to study these processes. Our goal is to identify and study factors that can promote neuroprotection and simulate regeneration in the adult CNS.
