The Parker laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting a postdoctoral associate. The primary role of this position is to perform electrophysiology experiments using whole cell patch clamp of mouse primary sensory neurons and spinal cord slices to investigate the role of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in chronic pain. This project will investigate the role of various nicotinic receptor subunits in the development of pain and chronic pain using transgenic mice.

A postdoctoral associate position in the area of organoid design and engineering is available in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Virginia Tech (Blacksburg VA, USA). The post-doctoral associate will be responsible for developing novel techniques for designing organoids, including methods for analyzing their properties using single-cell techniques. The postdoctoral associate will also be responsible for data management and dissemination of scientific results.

The postdoctoral associate will closely interact with the Pandemic Prevention and Prediction Destination Area. The associate will have opportunities to collaborate with virologists, drug designers, and computational biologists. Projects will include developing organoids to support the complete life cycle of viruses and high-throughput testing of candidate anti-viral drugs. The laboratory of Dr. Sora Shin at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to join a studying stress-induced behavioral dysfunction using brain circuit dissection tools. The research seeks to understand brain circuit mechanism of stress-induced social dysfunctions, altered pain sensation. Knowledge in neuroscience, neuromodulation, animal behavioral testing and data analysis of in vivo calcium imaging/ fiber photometry is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to have proficiency in animal (mouse) works as well as stereotaxic surgery, molecular biology techniques, and viral tracing methods.

The postdoctoral associate is expected, with guidance and support from her or his supervisor, to maintain familiarity with current scientific literature and contribute to the process of a project within his or her scientific discipline, as well as investigating, creating, and developing new methods for project advancement. The postdoctoral associate may conduct research under the general direction of the Principal Investigator. The Shin lab seeks to extend our ground-breaking findings in brain circuit dynamics underlying numerous psychiatric symptoms using cutting-edge techniques in the field of neuroscience.

The Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on two projects. The first project, approximately 2/3 time with Prof. Chris Roy as the primary collaborator, involves applying machine learning tools to improve computational fluid dynamic (CFD) predictions of hypersonic aerodynamics and heating. This project will involve research in Favre-Averaged Navier-Stokes (FANS) turbulence models, aided by machine learning, to predict surface heating, skin friction, and flow separation for hypersonic flows. The second project, approximately 1/3 time with Prof. Todd Lowe as the primary collaborator, involves supporting ongoing and future CFD model validation experiments including subsonic smooth-body turbulent flow separation.

The Lee lab at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC located in Roanoke, VA is recruiting Postdoctoral Associate. The research aim of our lab is to develop novel biomaterials that aid in modulating innate and adaptive immune responses for cancer immunotherapy. Our lab’s research interest focuses on drug/gene delivery, development of innate/adaptive immune agonists and immune cell engineering via chemical modification.

The primary role of this position is to develop novel biomaterials to re-educate tumor-homing myeloid cells and to understand how biomaterials activate innate immune responses. This project will focus on developing biomaterial-based innate immune agonists to re-educate tumor-homing macrophages or dendritic cells and revealing the therapeutic mechanisms in the setting of biomaterial treatments using several transgenic mouse strains.
