PhD Studentship - Algae PhDs fellowship UK

PhD Studentship - Algae        Dr Jonathan Lee ,  Dr Gary Stephen Caldwell  Friday, May 31, 2024  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide) About the Project PhD project part of the  CDT in Process Industries: Net Zero . The successful PhD student will be co-supervised by academics from the  Process Intensification Group  at Newcastle University.  Microalgae are playing increasingly prominent roles in wastewater bioremediation, where their well-known ability to absorb metals, nitrogen and phosphorous is used in solar driven processes that clean up the wastewater. A process co-developed by Newcastle University and Northumbrian Water Ltd (NWL) and installed at the Bran Sands treatment works on Teesside, uses an ammonophilic microalga ( Chlorococcum  sp.) originally isolated from Bran Sands to remediate ammonium from the site’s anaerobic digesters. The process is stable, well characterised, and is being implemented at scale. It is central to NWL’s nutrient neutrality and net zero ambitions

Phd Position in Soil Microbiology | Microbes and microplastics in agricultural soils, The University of Bayreuth, Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences

Interested in working on the microbiology of microplastics pollution in soils? Agricultural soils are one of the most important sinks for global microplastics pollution, but soil microorganisms can help to alleviate these problems. The University of Bayreuth, Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences, Chair of Ecological Microbiology (Prof. Dr. Tillmann Lueders) is currently offering a: Phd Position in Soil Microbiology (m/f/d), TV-L E 13 (65 %) Microbes and microplastics in agricultural soils  The position is available from July 1st, 2023, or as soon as filled, for a duration of three years. We are looking for: A highly motivated PhD candidate with a completed Masters’ degree in microbiology, molecular ecology, soil microbiology or other closely related fields. A strong background in microbiology, molecular biology and/or biogeochemical analytics is expected. Experience in next-generation sequencing or the setting up of field experiments are of benefit. PhD fellowship in Plant Ecology || PhD Project in Arctic plants’ thermal acclimation and heat-stress responses

PhD in Plant Ecology  PhD fellowship in Plant Ecology PhD Project in Arctic plants’ thermal acclimation and heat-stress responses Department of Biology Faculty of SCIENCE University of Copenhagen Terrestrial Ecology Section, Department of Biology invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in quantifying arctic plants’ thermal acclimation and responses to heatwaves. This PhD position is a part of a recently funded 5-year Villum Young Investigator project “Plant temperature-regulated Arctic responses and feedbacks to the changing climate” (2023-2028). Start date is expected to be 1st September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.   The project Strong, ongoing warming in the Arctic is causing drastic changes on arctic vegetation and plant functionality, which can modify potential roles of the arctic ecosystems in the climate system. This amplified warming is expected to largely increase the frequency of heatwaves in this region. Under heatwaves, we expect a reduced plant uptake o
